Recipe: Iced Matcha Latte Recipe »
This iced matcha latte recipe is creamy, refreshing and so easy to make at home but tastes like it came from your favourite cafe! It is made with matcha powder, oat milk and your choice of sweetener or fruit puree. Making it at home means that it is completely customisable and much cheaper than buying out. I'll also show you how to make the perfect fresh fruit purees for your iced matcha latte!
About This Iced Matcha Latte
Iced Matcha Lattes are one of the most popular cafe drinks and at some cafes, they outsell coffee several times over! But did you know that it is super simple to make Iced Matcha Lattes at home for a fraction of the price?
I make an iced matcha latte every day and this is my exact recipe that I've become known among friends and family for. It has (IMHO) the perfect balance of matcha, sweetness and milk!
Why you'll love making Iced Matcha Lattes at home
For starters, they're so much cheaper than having them out. A matcha latte is around $10 at a cafe and the cost of a tin of matcha is maybe twice that and has enough matcha to make TEN matcha lattes.
Iced Matcha Lattes are also completely vegan so everyone can enjoy them.
You can add sweeteners to your taste. I like adding fruit purees - my current favourite matcha latte is made with banana puree. I also love using nectar drinks like guava or apricot nectar to my iced matcha. You can also use agave, maple or simple syrup.
I also make fresh fruit purees for my iced matcha latte including strawberry puree, mango puree, pink dragonfruit puree and banana puree. See tips below for an easy way to make a fresh fruit puree. You can also use frozen fruit too!
You can use your favourite matcha in it! Some people have serious favourites with their matcha. Laura, a matcha aficianado loves Wako matcha powder which is considered one of the best in the world.
Do you need ceremonial matcha for a matcha latte? No, while ceremonial matcha is amazing and with much less bitterness, mixing it with milk doesn't do this matcha flavour's justice. Ceremonial matcha powder is designed for mixing with water only. Look for Premium Matcha powder for making matcha lattes or go for ceremonial if your budget allows.

Ingredients For Matcha Latte
Matcha powder - Use your favourite matcha powder - whatever fits your budget!
Water - Filtered water.
Sweetener - Use agave, maple syrup or sweetened fruit puree. I love using the fruit purees by Monin as they are made with real fruit and taste great.
Oat milk - Oat milk is best for matcha latte as it is creamy and tends to not curdle as much when paired with fruit purees. Look for the barista blends of oat milk as it has a slightly higher fat content and a smooth mouthfeel when drinking.
Ice cubes - I like using enormous ice cubes but any will do.
Tips For Making Matcha Latte
1 - Matcha sets come with a bowl or a chawan (茶碗), bamboo whisk or chasen (茶筅) and a Chasen Naoshi holder (茶筅くせ直し) to dry the chasen. It also comes with a chashaku which is designed to give you 1-2g of matcha.
2 - Matcha kits sometimes come with a sieve but I've never really found it necessary when using cold water to make iced matcha lattes. Just make sure to whisk it well.
3 - I also do not use the chashaku to measure my matcha. I use a teaspoon which measures the amount of matcha that I like (I like my iced matcha lattes moderately strong).
4 - I use my scale to make my matcha lattes. It's like second nature to me as most ingredients are 100g/3.5oz (including the ice cube weight) with just 30g/1oz of sweetener.
5 - Wash the chasen under warm running water immediately after use and whisk in a bowl of water. Avoid using detergent and definitely no dishwasher sorry! Dry in the chasen holder.
6- How to make a fruit puree sweetener: Blend 130g/4.6oz fruit with 3 teaspoons of sugar and 20ml/0.7fl oz - 40ml/1.4 fl oz water. You don't want your fruit puree to be too thick and are aiming for the texture of a nectar drink. Note: banana puree needs a bit more water than other fruit.
7 - I used a large 400ml/14oz Kinto style glass.
