A friend once described how excited her dogs became when they realised that they were going on a road trip. As soon as they saw their blanket being packed along with the family's suitcases, their ears pricked up, their tags wagged and they became sweet as pie (as opposed to the sulky slinking about when they realise that they'll be left behind). I am much the same when it comes to road trips.
